Juan Carlos Morales Solís was born in 1996 in Mexico. He graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (QFB) with honors from the Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico) in 2019. He obtained his Master’s degree with honors from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) in Mexico, where he worked on the diastereoselective synthesis of heterocyclic aminophosphonic acids (Amino Acids 2022, 54, 299-310; Eur J. Org. 2022, e202200461) supervised by Dr. Mario Ordóñez at the Center of Chemical Research (CIQ-UAEM).
Juan Carlos began his PhD studies in 2022 under the supervision of Dr. Mario Ordóñez, working on the stereodivergent and stereoselective synthesis of diethyl 4-hydroxyphosphopipecolates (Synthesis 2024, 56, 871-877; Synthesis 2024, 56, 2588-2594) at CIQ-UAEM. In 2023 he obtained the “Cátedra Juvenil” distinction from the Mexican Academy of Organic Chemistry (AMQO A.C.). He subsequently got a doctoral internship for one year (April 2024-March 2025) in the HOCA group of the ISQCH research institute of the CSIC (Zaragoza, Spain) to continue his doctoral thesis under international joint-supervised thesis regimen at the University of Zaragoza, co-supervised by Dr. Eugenia Marqués-López. Herein he is working on the enantioselective synthesis of new heterocyclic hydroxy- and oxo-phosphonates by organocatalytic phosphonylations.
